Jason Wu Spring 2012
New York Fashion Week
September 9, 2011

Review: Crowds formed along the runway at Jason Wu’s Spring 2012 showing at New York Fashion Week, and no wonder why, Jason Wu promised to take risks and we all know how great his talents are. The Spring 2012 collection is very fresh and modern, yet classic at the same time. He used a vast array of different materials and embroideries including sequins, pearls and beads. Just some of my personal highlights include a sparkly sequin collar added onto a normal workday suit which looked fabulous. A white sequin top paired with a pink peplum and skirt which complimented one another very well. A strapless neon-yellow gown that looks fresh and modern, but classic at the same time because of the look of the gown. Then the finale which was my favourite part. Jason paired a white lace shirt with a black gazar skirt that was trailed with a long train which looked marvellous and ended the show beautifully. Throughout the show, Jason used tiny black ribbon belts that looked chic on the designs and really complimented the look. The palette was very ladylike and classic, but you will notice the hot pink was featured again. Prompting a possible trend for the SS12 season perhaps - bold colours? Overall, this collection was fantastic and Jason Wu hasn’t disappointed me.

Rachel Antonoff Presentation

This set up was pretty killer, like some weird twisted dream where girls in braids are trying to kill me but also sell me cool clothes.  My favorite piece is the Becky L. Dress on Olivia, it’s the long black dress in the Parlor (top) photo.

The makeup was created by Keri Blair for MAC and I have to say I love this.  I’m a huge fan of the strong brow and light smokey eyes.  I actually don’t know if I’d technically consider this a smokey eye, it’s more of a soft but scary, I’ve-been-up-for-three-days-plotting-your-demise eye, but I love it.

Tracy Reese Spring 2012
New York Fashion Week
September 10, 2011

Tracy Reese has opted for a relaxed and summery collection for her Spring 2012 collection. All the pieces looked extremely delightful and feminine which is what we need for a Spring/Summer line. Her inspiration was “land of pure delight” and she wanted to achieve a “feminine yet relaxed mood through the juxtaposition of romance and sport, comfort and flattery”.

We saw a spring line full of colour - blues, light greens, orange, and salmon pink just to name a few. The fabric was relaxed and very feminine, everything seemed to flow nicely. She used a lot of floral prints in her designs and even some graphics on a mini skirt. I adored the way she matched the parasol with the print on the dress, such a finishing touch like that adds so much charm to a look and creates a vintage feel. It’s something we haven’t seen so far at Fashion Week, which is surprising because it would be a great trend for SS12.

As the show went on, Tracy had everything that makes a Spring/Summer collection. Including a flowing pearl jumpsuit, a bright pink romper, a nude-toned sheer negligee with lace and matching parasol, and a dress with multiple prints including bright pink floral and green foliage against a blueish graphic background with black and white horizontal stripes that runs on both sides. Tracy also included some oversized knits and jackets which would come in handy when the sunsets and the fire inside is toasting away.
